MyPhotoSchool Online Photo Course Week 3

I've just submitted week three's assignment on MyPhotoSchool course, which has been all about composition.



I'm still enjoying it, and getting out when I can to practise my skills.

My feedback from last week's submission was again mostly positive, with a few little niggles. Last week's tasks were all about lighting, take a look at my week 2 diary entry here. Sue Bishop, my tutor and fine art photography expert, especially liked my shot of Thoresby Hall Clock tower, which demonstrates using side lighting to accentuate shape.


She also like my photo of the steam train the mardy monster, although I agreed with her that it could have been better if there was light falling on the front of the engine, and the photo was straightened up slightly in Photoshop. You live and learn! All the criticism I have received so far has been constructive and helpful towards my future photo taking skills.



This week, my assignment has been all about composition. Sue explained about the rule of thirds, and how using lines to lead the eye into your photos can work. We also looked at how using low and high horizon lines when appropriate can really benefit a photo.

Luckily, there was a rainbow near my house that made for a great low horizon photo.
