typemaker What profile?

TypeMaker, the Birmingham-based developer and distributor of colour management solutions announced that they will be releasing a new, low-cost application - What Profile? on their stand at IPEX, April 9-17.

In today's colour applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, the use of ICC profiles for colour management is very common. But users are frequently faced with the question "What if I receive an image that includes an incorrect or no profile?" - assigning the wrong source profile can lead to many hours of colour correction or simply a useless image. What Profile? aims to provide a solution.

What Profile? can be launched from within Photoshop or as a stand-alone application and presents the user with four versions of an image, each viewed through a different source profile. The most appropriate profile can easily be attached to image and control returned to Photoshop.

Users will also appreciate being able to compare and convert an image (with a source profile) simulated through four destination profiles, or to the same destination profiles using different rendering intents. All of this can be achieved in a matter of minutes, enabling the user to accurately evaluate how an image will finally appear in print or proof.

Simon Prais, TypeMakers' technical director commented, "Advance previews of the product have been extremely well received. What Profile? addresses one of the most common problems faced when opening an image in Photoshop - dealing with legacy files. Anyone interested in colour management will benefit from using it."

Availability and Pricing
What Profile? is priced at 116 and will be available from mid-April and will run on Macintosh OS9 and OSX. It will be marketed under TypeMaker's new Colour Confidence brand.
