iphone lenses patent

Could your next iPhone feature swappable lenses? Well based on a patent application, it seems it could do.

The patent application says: "As the quality of digital images that can be obtained with highly compact devices increases, there is increasing demand for sophisticated features previously found only in high-end digital cameras, such as digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras."

The patent drawings show a device which has an iPhone-like structure and the wording in the patent suggests users would be able to remove the back panel of the phone, and insert various different lenses as desired.

Another images used on the patent application seems to also suggest the new phone design could feature two camera lenses built-in, one at the top and one at the bottom.

The patent application can be seen here.

"could feature two camera lenses built-in, one at the top and one at the bottom. "

Two lenses? Possibly for 3D images or video?

Reading the patent... the concept is a removable back cover that incorporates one or two lenses for the sensor that's inside.

The two lens back allows you to remove, rotate, and replace the back to use the other lens.

Other options include flash, no IR cut filter, etc.

Definitely one sensor.
