Canon announce the LV-X4 - a multi-media projector designed especially to suit
the requirements of the education market. The 1500 ANSI lumens projector produces
an image that is both bright and clear, and complies with the requirements outlined
by Becta (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) for classroom
use. Canon brings its optical heritage and technical expertise into the classroom
with the LV-X4, which features high resolution native XGA projection for crisp
images and a high contrast ratio of 400:1 for vivid colours, with an affordable
price tag for education budgets.
The 1.6x zoom lens allows flexibility when positioning the projector and the
wide angle of the lens provides a large image when the projector is close to
the screen. The LV-X4 also incorporates a range of features to automatically
maximize image quality and increase flexibility of use. These include an 'Auto
Image mode' for automatic brightness adjustment and eight flexible image settings
- including a Blackboard mode designed especially for classroom use - for optimal
results in different lighting conditions. Progressive scan replication with
interlaced video signals provides smoother movement and sharper text. Vertical
keystone adjustment corrects image distortion when the projector is angled up
Flexible image settings for better images
The eight image settings ensure picture quality is always optimized - both data
projection and video projection modes can be selected with four sub-modes. Data
projection can be set to standard, Hi-Contrast (for sharper graphs and photographs),
custom and Blackboard modes. Video projection can be set to standard, cinema
(designed for watching movies in darkened rooms), custom and Blackboard modes.
Blackboard mode is designed to supply the ideal colour balance when projecting
onto the dark surface of classroom blackboards. Custom modes for both data and
video allow a range of settings (including gamma, or brightness) to be manually
adjusted to tailor the image to a specific environment.
Auto Image mode handles variable light conditions
For low light or darkened room conditions, areas in the projected image that
are supposed to be jet-black can sometimes be tainted with light grey if the
projector lamp is too bright. The LV-X4's Auto Image mode automatically compensates
for this effect by continuously measuring ambient light and adjusting lamp output
accordingly. This results in perfectly balanced brightness - even in constantly
changing conditions - without the need for manual adjustments.
Progressive scanning for smooth video projection
Image flickering often visible in conventional projectors is generally caused
by a method of projection known as interlaced scanning, which merges two fields
to produce a single frame. The LV-X4 uses progressive scanning, which draws
the entire frame continuously from top to bottom, greatly reducing flicker and
producing cleaner diagonal lines, titles and sub-titles.
The LV-X4 is portable, compact and lightweight (weighing 2.8 kg and featuring
an A4+ footprint), offering great flexibility of location. The LV-X4's 1.6x
manual zoom provides the right image size at a wide range of throw distances.
The wide angle of the lens ensures large image projection even when the projector
is very close to the screen, producing a 100-inch diagonal screen from a 100-inch
(2.5m) distance. The vertical keystone adjustment corrects trapezoidal distortion
when the projector is angled up or down - perfect for ceiling installation.
Quiet and comfortable
A quiet mode reduces fan noise from 39 dB to just 35 dB for exceptionally quiet
operation in hushed settings. The new Linear Fan Control feature also helps
create a comfortable viewing environment by automatically adjusting the fan
system - fan voltage is calibrated with respect to room temperature, so fan
noise is never in excess.
Advanced multimedia connectivity
With its Analogue In/Out connection, the LV-X4 offers high-quality projection
from a wide array of audio-visual devices, including VCRs, DVD players, digital
camcorders and game consoles. The projector can also be connected to an external
monitor. Optional SCART connectors and Component Video adapters are available.
Customization and control
The LV-X4 can be customized to project the user's logo as soon as the projector
is turned on - useful for both security purposes and for maintaining a professional
impression. A Key Lock function can disable the keys on either the remote control
or the projector's control panel, giving just one person control of the presentation.
The remote control incorporates useful new features including mouse right click
functions and spotlight function.
