New Mac ProPress Release:
No matter which Mac Pro model you choose — 8-core or quad-core Intel Xeon — each delivers advanced performance, workstation graphics and unparalleled expansion in so many possible configurations, your imagination has finally met its match.

Opt for the 8-core Mac Pro and you get the power of two Quad-Core Intel Xeon Clovertown processors running at 3.0GHz. Or choose a quad-core Mac Pro featuring two Dual-Core Intel Xeon Woodcrest processors and decide how fast they fly: 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz or 3.0GHz. At 3.0GHz, the quad-core Mac Pro runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad

Mac Pro accommodates up to four drives and 3TB of storage, offers 8 DIMM slots to fill with up to 16GB of RAM and provides up to two SuperDrives. It also gives you four PCI Express slots and lots of I/O options for ultimate flexibility.

Looking for workstation graphics? You’ve come to the right place. Three graphics card options let you choose the card that meets your specific needs. And every one lets you connect up to two displays, including one 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display.

With build-to-order options available for processors, graphic cards, memory, hard drives, optical drives and other features and components, the über-configurable Mac Pro lets you build your personal dream machine.

Configure your ideal Mac Pro today by visiting the Apple store online.

Sounds great pricey though just configured one with all top options and came out at over £11,000 but for all that power worth it if your bussiness needs it extreme for home use

Just configured one via the Apple store for education... 2x quad core 3GHz processors, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro 4500, 3x 750GB H.D.D.'s, 2 optical drives, built in bluetooth & airport, wireless keyboard and 2x 30" flatpanel displays.

Came to £8738.48, and free delivery, so I ordered two. Wink

You can't compare Xeon stuff with your normal Pentium...

FWIW, I use a Dell Precision Workstation 690 which has a Quad Core Xeon...

It flies, but check out the cost of RAM for it - 16Gb would set me back about least £2500+VAT - that's just the FB-DIMMs (although at the time I bought the cost was around £16k for 16Gb Tongue )
...and that's why I have "only" 2Gb Sad

So, the Apple price isn't that bad Wink

FBDs aren't all that expensive, a 2GB FBD is about £175 from memory now (no pun intended).

2 x Quad Core Xeon, only really any good if you're doing heavy number crunching - but not on video, because you'll need some seriously fast disk to keep up with it. Anandtech recently tested a Dual Quad Core Xeon and used 12 x SAS drives and it still wasn't fast enough.
