'Nex Kit' From Arca-Swiss - Arca-Swiss have a new mini L-Bracket for the Nex 3 and Nex 5 Sony cameras.

Arca-Swiss have released a new mini L-bracket that's light, small and designed to be used with the Sony Alpha NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras. The new bracket allows you to quickly change from landscape to portrait format and as well as an L-bracket, the kit also comes with a shoe that an optical finder can be attached to.
The new kit is priced at €159.

Is it just me, or is this the most pointless & useless accessory ever designed? If you're going to mount the camera on a tripod, the tripod head will turn through 90 degrees. Why pay €159 for something you can do anyway, for free?
If you're not, just turn your hand. It's what they were designed for.
The shoe & optical finder may be of interest to some, if offered at a low enough price.
I suppose it's quite flattering for Sony - you know you've got a good product on your hands when 3rd party manufactureres start producing accessories for it. Just look at the number of companies producing iPod docks...
I've got a NEX-5 and very pleased with it. Can't really understand what this does that isn't done by tripod? Can somebody tell me? The screen is excellent even in the brightest of sunlight (switch to sunlight mode) and with its swivel action is a breeze to use. Why would I want a (fixed) optical viewfinder? A retro step IMO.
The point is that the lens stays in the same place when switching from landscape to portrait. If using the tripod head to change orientation the position of the lens changes as you move the head.
Could be useful for close up work.
I've got NEX 3, when using with 18 - 200 lens on tripod it slips and leans. Hate not having view finder, in bright sunlight all I can see is my reflection!
Otherwise I love the cam and am waiting for the Nex 5 to hit New Zealand.
I see your point, Ant. but if you take it off the tripod to turn it around, aren't you in danger of accidentally moving the tripod head while detaching & re-attaching? I'd probably knock the thing over messing about anyway. ![]()
