New user friendly packaging for Ilford products - Ilford Photo, leaders in traditional monochrome photography products are making their packaging more user friendly for international users.

For any global brand it is extremely important to employ packaging which is as universal as possible and therefore easy for customers to use wherever they are in the world. For this reason, Ilford Photo - the specialist monochrome brand of Harman technology Limited - has recently updated the packaging for its entire range of photo chemistry products.

The re-designed packaging has been created to be more user-friendly, multi-lingual and to offer increased ergonomics. Specifically, all items now feature clearer and more visible labelling which means all the information is readily to hand. The bottles also include tactile ribbed sides for better handling and grip, embossed chemical symbols for users with impaired vision and childproof caps for safer storage. Combined, these enhancements will make Ilford Photo chemistry products easier to identify, easier to use and easier to store - whilst at the same time ensuring worldwide consistency.

Howard Hopwood, Marketing Director of Harman technology Limited explains: “The old packaging meant that we had slight variations sent to Europe, America and Asia. Whilst this worked very well in terms of the individual markets, we felt we could make the whole process much more streamlined by employing universal packaging across the board. This uniform approach also gives photographers and enthusiasts the reassurance of knowing they are dealing with a global brand whose products are manufactured and packaged to one high and internationally consistent standard."

“Moreover, by making our photo-chemistry products easier to use, we hope to make them accessible to a wider market – which is beneficial to Ilford Photo’s longstanding endeavour to keep analogue photography alive and well in an increasingly digital world.”

The packaging changes come close on the heels of the recent launch of Ilford Ilfosol 3 which is an enhanced formulation of the one-shot, general-purpose, liquid black and white film developer - Ilfosol S.

The new developer is particularly suited for use with medium and slow speed films such as Ilford Pan F Plus, Ilford FP4 Plus and Ilford Delta 100 Professional where it ensures a fine grain and optimal sharpness at full film speed. It is supplied as a concentrate in economical 500ml bottles and is diluted (typically at a ratio of 1:9) for one-shot use. However, for greater economy, Ilfosol 3 can also be used with many films at a higher dilution of 1:14 with only a small trade off in image quality.

The introduction of Ilfosol 3 is just the latest in a long line of product launches by Ilford Photo. Since the company was formed in 2005 out of the black and white side of the Ilford business created by Alfred Harman in 1879, Ilford Photo has re-introduced such well-respected Photochemistry products as Ilford ID-11, Microphen and Perceptol powder film developers, as well as Ilford Ilfotec HC and Ilford Ilfotec LC29 concentrated liquid film developers.
