Over a dozen panoramic photographic artworks produced by graduates of the University of Wales, Newport will feature in a state-of-the-art floating art gallery onboard P&O Cruises’ new super-liner Ventura.
Matt Wright and Chris George, who formed their company WrightGeorge upon graduating from Newport School of Art Media and Design, were commissioned to produce the 15 stunning 360° photographic artworks by Tempest Radford Art Consultancy.
“We were delighted by this latest commission,” said 26-year-old Matt Wright whose highly successful company, which uses cutting edge digital photographic technology, was founded in 2004.
“We spent three weeks travelling the UK photographing some of the most iconic landmark locations in the country. This was followed by an intensive period of post-production before the final images were completed. Nothing is left out unlike the normal imagery used to present and promote these locations, offering an uncompromised view on these highly documented spaces. Using specialist digital equipment 96 individual shots were taken for each image and then combined using software kindly supplied by our sponsors Realviz.”
The selected locations - the Wales Millennium Centre, Cabot Tower in Bristol, Canary Wharf, Cheddar Caves, Goonhilly, HMS Victory, SS Great Britain, St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, the Globe Theatre, the Eden Project, The Forth Rail Bridge, Edinburgh Castle, The Sage, Gateshead and the Spinnaker Tower, Ullswater – are all represented as fully spherical panoramas and show the complete environment that they were taken in from one point in space.
Their highly specialised and innovative approach to panoramic photography was developed when they met as students at Newport School of Art Media and Design.
“Matt and I both enjoyed the creative freedom of studying on the Photographic Art degree course at Newport’s University,” said 38-year-old Chris George, who comes from Bristol.
“It gave us the opportunity to develop our approach to 360 degree panoramic photography, and I am still carrying out an ongoing research project into using this technique for photos created as spherical objects. “
This is the latest in a series of prestigious commissions for WrightGeorge who last year had a highly successful exhibition of photos at the Windows Gallery, Canary Wharf in London which provided a new take on the heart of London’s commercial district.
