Nikon Coolscan V ED, 5000 ED and 9000ED debut
Nikon's new Coolscan V ED, Coolscan 5000ED and Coolscan 9000ED feature improvements on the current models such as enhanced scanning speed and image quality.

These three new scanners replace the existing Coolscan IV, Coolscan 4000 and Coolscan 8000. Each one comes with
Digital ICE4 Advanced - a suite of four image correction technologies.
Digital ICE works with LED illumination to remove surface dust and scratches without altering image composition. Digital ROC automatically rebuilds and restores deteriorated colour values for faithfully rendered images. Digital GEM reduces the effects of film grain, producing sharp, clear images without clumping or graininess. The newly added Digital DEE function uses exposure compensation to help reveal details that may be hidden in shadowy or highlighted portions of scenes.

The entry level Coolscan V ED replaces the Coolscan IV and has the following highlights:

High-quality film scanning
The 4000dpi true optical resolution and 14-bit A/D input converter with 16-and 8-bit output enable the reproduction of sharp, crisp images with vibrant colours. Nikon's exclusive Scanner Nikkor ED lens also plays a key role in the delivery of high-quality images, reducing colour aberration and minimizing image distortion. Proprietary LED illumination technology ensures consistently accurate colour reproduction.

Quick, easy operation and high performance
The Coolscan V ED is designed to be easy for even first-time users to operate. Simply set the film, perform one-touch image preview and click the Scan button. In about 38 seconds, you'll have a high-quality digital image at 4000 dpi. Image data transfer is also a breeze, as the Coolscan V ED incorporates the high-speed USB 2.0 interface.

Unmatched image restoration functions
The Scan Image Enhancer function automatically adjusts brightness and colour saturation, producing images with optimal contrast.

Ultra-fast scanning
The Super Coolscan 5000 ED features a newly-developed, low-noise 2-line CCD sensor for an amazing 135/IX240 film scanning scanning speed of 20 seconds at 4000 dpi - ideal for imaging professionals and other users who value high productivity. Autofocusing speed has been reduced to a mere four seconds. The scanner also offers the plug-and-play USB 2.0 interface, which dramatically increases data transfer speed.

Users who deal with numerous slide mounts and uncut film rolls will appreciate the increased ease of use and productivity afforded by optional accessories like the Slide Feeder SF-210 and Roll Film Adapter SA-30. The Super Coolscan 5000 ED offers the performance and efficiency to make it the ideal digital archiving solution.

High image quality
The Super Coolscan 5000 ED's 4000dpi true optical resolution and 16-bit A/D converter enable a significantly broader dynamic range to reproduce vibrant colour and astonishing detail. The scanner's Multi-sample scanning feature can reveal detail hidden in shadowy and highlighted portions of a scene, while virtually eliminating noise.

At the heart of the Super Coolscan 5000 ED's excellent performance are Nikon's exclusive core technologies. The scanner incorporates Scanner Nikkor ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lens elements for superior edge-to-edge sharpness, definition and contrast, as well as outstanding colour fidelity. The employment of LED illumination enables the stable, precise provision of light with no risk of heat-related damage to films. Furthermore, the LED requires neither maintenance nor warm-up time. And for consistently accurate representation of colour on displays and prints, the Super Coolscan 5000 ED features the Nikon Colour Management System (Nikon CMS).
