The FM3A inherits most of its predecessor's features, including durable metal construction and a classic centre-weighted metering system, while the world's first hybrid shutter control system enables mechanical shutter speed control to be operated without batteries at any shutter speed -yet in A mode the shutter speed is electronically controlled for aperture-priority auto operation. The top shutter speed is 1/4000sec, and the flash sync 1/250sec.

In addition, TTL (through-the-lens) flash control, DX-coded film settings a new bright focusing screens, and a choice of black or silver body are also available.

The FM3A offers full access to the Nikon system, which include the professional AF-S lens line-up and many other AF and manual Nikkor lenses.
