Nikon post advice on how many SB-R200 Speedlights can be attached safely to a range of lenses.

The SB-200 close up system should not be used with certain lenses as the weight of this Speedlight when attached to the front of the lens will cause excess strain on the lens barrel and helicoid, affecting lens performance.

The lenses which are incompatible with the SB-R200 close-up flash system include the new VR 18-200mm DX lens and surprisingly their Zoom Micro Nikkor 70-180mm, which would be ideally suited to a close-up flash system due to its small maximum aperture. Details of which lenses will suffer from vignetting when used with this accessory are also included, for digital and 35mm formats.
