Nikon Coolpix S4100 Cancelled - Nikon's new compact camera, the Nikon Coolpix S4100 has been cancelled due to the Japan Earthquake

Nikon UK has confirmed the Nikon Coolpix S4100 has been cancelled due to manufacturing problems caused by the Japanese Earthquake. Nikon's response is below, explaining the reasons behind the cancellation of the camera, and instead the other Coolpix camera's are still available such as the Nikon Coolpix S3100, and Nikon Coolpix S5100. The S4100 cancellation is not the first camera cancelled due to problems in Japan, Olympus also cancelled the VR-330.
"Nikon UK can confirm that the COOLPIX S4100 will not be available in the UK due to problems with the procurement of some components after the recent earthquake and tsunami. We sincerely apologize to all those affected by this decision, and especially to those who had intended to purchase the camera, retailers and others whose business will be affected, for the inconvenience this decision may cause."

I have owned the Nikon S4100 for 3 weeks and taken only 600 shots on it and it has died completely. Surprisingly after some internet searching many other people have had similar lifespans with this exact model!! I now learn that as I live in UK and bought this in USA the warranty is invalid. I really wish I had done my research before purchasing this model.
The statement from Nikon infers that the Tsunami has caused procurement difficulties for some parts related to the S4100, however the Nikon Sendai factory affected by the Tsunami only manufactures professional high end camera products. The S4100 is not a professional or high end product and is clearly labelled 'MADE IN CHINA'.
I rather suspect this statement is hokum and Nikon are actually making a tactical withdrawal from market of a poor reliability product to limit warranty claims and the tsunami is just a convenient smokescreen to hide it.
Come on Nikon own up to your customers, tell the truth do the decent thing!!
