Nokia has announced the new Nokia Lumia 1020 - a 41 megapixel smart phone with Carl Zeiss f/2.2 lens, optical image stabilisation, and full HD video. The smartphone with a camera centric approach features a Xenon flash, plus the ability to adjust focus, exposure, and white balance. Also announced is an optional camera grip, shown below.

Nokia Lumia 1020 Key Features:

  • 41 megapixel sensor
  • Carl Zeiss f/2.2 lens
  • Optical Image Stabilisation
  • Xenon Flash
  • Full HD Video, stereo sound
  • 4.5inch AMOLED touch screen
  • Dual-core 1.5 GHz processor
  • 6x video zoom without image quality loss
Nokia first introduced a 41 megapixel sensor in their Symbian OS based Nokia Pureview 808, which allowed zoom during video or zoom for still photos when shooting at a lower (8/5/3mp) resolution. This has been improved upon in the Nokia Lumia 1020, with the camera recording the full resolution image as well as allowing the image to be zoomed in to after the shot.

Nokia has also released a new app to give manual control over the camera:

"Nokia Pro Camera: Get the most out of the Nokia Lumia camera: it works great in Auto mode or you can take full manual control over exposure, shutter speed, ISO, white balance and focus, just like on an DSLR-camera.  The different framing grids help you to frame your shot, and if you did not get the shot completely straight, don't worry - you can straighten and crop it afterwards, over and over again. Plus, for the first time ever for Nokia Lumia, we’ve included an HD video mode that records high-quality stereo sound."
