Sample photos from the Olympus PEN E-P3 and Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12mm f/2.0 lens - Click to view full size samples:
The full size photos are well worth viewing, as the image quality and sharpness of this lens is very good, with excellent detail right to the corners, and very little flare (unless you specifically try and induce it by shooting into the sun). The manual focus ring feels very good in hand with just the right amount of dampening. Chromatic aberration can be seen in the corners of the images in some of the shots, particularly where there is a high level of contrast. Check back soon for our full review of the Olympus PEN E-P3 for more on the camera's image quality.
Hands on with the Olympus 45mm lens
Unfortunately production models were not available as this lens was running a v0.9 firmware.

The all metal lens feels great, and looks great with 7 aperture blades. The lower price of £300 should make this more appealing if you had to choose between the two lenses.

They're both interesting lenses. I have been looking for something for indoor portrait shots with my PL1, and the 45mm f1.8 looks like the ticket.
I realise you haven't had time, but I would like to see the results of using the 12mm f2.0 for indoor movies such as a kids birthday party, etc.
Good job.
Cheers,
Denny

This looks like a 'great light system' for travel & street photography. I think that the advances that Olympus is making, makes it 'a very competitive playing field.' I may be seriously thinking of purchasing the new PEN E-P3 with the standard kit lens, & then maybe add the 45mm prime for street photography. I really like the mostly metal construction, the AF illumination & AF enhancements, & the lightness of the system,... in the context of the improved 12.3 MP Four-thirds sensor with the TruePic V1 engine. All this reminds me of my beloved & vintage black Olympus OM-2n w the 50 mm f1.8. We shall see. I will have to purchase the attachable EVF(electronic view finder) because I really rely on a real eyepiece viewfinder in my photography. I hope that my comments may engender more commentary. I am now a Pentax DSLR user with a nice K100D body and upgraded SMC Pentax 18-55 mm f3.5-5.6 AL II Zoom lens. I would not "even consider" the new small Pentax shooter because of the great limitations of the miniscule 2/3 size sensor.
