Jon Nicholson will be showing photography from his book, 'Cowboys' a Vanishing World, at the Howard Gardens Gallery, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff from 7th - 19th January.  Opening times are Mon-Thurs 9am - 8pm and Fri & Sat 9am - 6pm.

Jon Nicholson, who exhibited his work in October and November 2001 at the Michael Hoppen Gallery & the Levi's flagship store in London, used the Olympus OM4Ti professional SLR camera to put together this collection of photography.

The cowboy remains one of America's most enduring myths and Nicholson's photography explores the phenomena of the American West which all began with the Spanish exploration of New Mexico more than 400 years ago.  The cowboy reached his heyday in the nineteenth century, but the twentieth century threw up some seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Jon Nicholson, whose previous work includes books on the England rugby team, Formula One and Chelsea football club, explains, "To photograph the cowboys I was rushing around a great deal and frequently clambering on and off horseback. The OM4Ti is very light and practical and was therefore ideal for this project."
