Olympus Cameras Announced At CES 2013 - Olympus has announced several new compact super zoom and tough waterproof cameras at CES 2013.
5 new compacts join the Olympus range at CES 2013 with 3 Toughs cameras and 2 slim-line zoom models.
The world firsts* include 5 Axis image stabilisation for blur free movie recording.
Featuring Olympus iHS processing and borrowing technology pioneered in the OM-D, the flagship TG-2 and SH-50 deliver our best all round performance yet in a classic compact.
The new models in the Traveller (SH-50, SZ-16, SZ15) and Tough (TG-2, TG-830, TG-630) series are aimed at the growing high-zoom category as well as outdoor/action cameras with brilliant optics in ultra-compact bodies.
As with the TG-1 before, the new flagship of the Olympus STYLUS TOUGH range TG-2 supplies light to the sensor through a remarkable, extra-bright maximum aperture 1:2.0 high-speed lens.
Together they capture excellent images in conditions that leave lesser rugged compact cameras in the dark. For fans of background blur, the manual aperture priority option is a category rarity while closeup and macro lovers benefit from 200mm* telephoto power as close as 1cm from the subject. Of course, the TG-2 also spoils outdoor enthusiasts like bikers and climbers.
With GPS tracking, 240fps high-speed movie recording for super slow-motion playback and – best of all – a peace-of-mind guarantee: it’s waterproof to a depth of 15 metres, shockproof to a height of 2.1m, freeze proof to -10°C and crushproof to a force of 100kg and is FlashAir™ compatible for transferring password-protected images to selected smartphones and social networks
- 12m BSI CMOS sensor
- 4x Optical from 25mm wide
- Microscope mode
- Full HD 1080
- GPS and e-Compass
The new Traveller flagship Olympus SH-50 comes with manual settings and multiple-axis image stabilisation (IS), a technology that can claim two world firsts for compact digital cameras. Hybrid 5-axis Movie IS compensates for movement around the axis of the lens in addition to the usual yaw and pitch, as well as horizontal and vertical shift.
With 5-axis Movie IS, you can record a blur-free full HD movie literally on the run, while 3-axis Photo IS can counteract movement around the rotary axis, the imaginary line that runs straight through the lens from the front of the camera to the back. This is vital with handheld shots at high zoom ratios where even the slightest tremble can be magnified disproportionately to cause unsharp images.
Other key features:
- 24x optical zoom and 16mp CMOS Sensor.
- 1080 Full HD 60i or 30p movie with sound for choosing the very best movie format.
- 720p HD with 120fps or HVGA with 240fps high-speed movie recording for dramatic slow-motion playback of fast-action scenes.
- Tele-macro for shooting fascinating close-ups and detail from as far as 40cm from the subject.
- M mode for manual adjustment of aperture and exposure time.
- FlashAir™ compatible for transferring password-protected images to selected smartphones and social networks.
In this fast growing category, the SZ-15 demonstrates in one press on the zoom control why a
compact camera offers so much more than a phone.
Go from 25mm wide angle all the way to 600mm in old money all on a pocket friendly body that boasts dual image stabilisation. In fact, the 16mp resolution means that high quality results are even possible using digital SR zoom that will take you all the way to 1200mm, although we might recommend resting on a wall for that! In practice this makes the SZ-15 a great all round family and travel camera capable of delivering stunning scenes all the way to the smile on a batsman’s face from the boundary rope.
Add to that features like beauty mode for stunning portraits and tele macro for impact laden close ups, and your timeline and photobooks will be the envy of all.
Olympus TG-830 and TG-630
Carrying on the tough tradition that Olympus pioneered, these two add some useful extra power to
help you get the best shots in the most challenging conditions.
The Olympus TG-830 hosts a 16mp BSI CMOS sensor, 5x zoom from 28mm plus GPS & e-Compass, High Speed Movie, Full HD with one button Operation and Sequential shooting with 60fps. The high level of toughness carries on from previous models: Shockproof 2m, Waterproof 10m, Freeze-proof -10C, Crushproof 100kg.
The middle sibling Olympus TG-630 might be seen as more family oriented with Shockproof 1.5m and Waterproof to 5m stats meaning it is great for pools and snorkelling. Offering 12mp BSI CMOS and including the top end iHS process like its two bigger brothers, you can be sure of excellent image quality and all models have Olympus auto underwater white balance to improve colour rendition.
