Olympus have released their next-generation of TOUGH compacts which they say 'set a new benchmark, by combining Olympus’ trademark indestructibility* with superb picture quality.'

Olympus Tough TG-620

The TG-620 and TG-820 have a new 12 Megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and a TruePic VI image processor that have improved low-light performance, enhance scene and subject recognition and the cameras respond quicker.

As with all TOUGH cameras these two models are waterproof*, shockproof* and freezeproof*. The TG-820 is also crushproof* to a weight of 100kg. Both feature a 5x wide optical zoom (28mm-140mm**) and super-legible, scratch-resistant 3” 1,030,000-dot HyperCrystal III LCD (460,000 dots on the TG-620) screens. They capture Full HD movies as well as still photos.

Both TOUGH compacts are available from mid- February 2012, the TG-820 for £269.99 and the TG-620 for £229.99.
