PDN reported that Ned Bunnell, the president of Pentax Imaging USA said they've started development and the Pentax 645D medium format camera will be released by Spring 2010. Bunnell is hoping to have the camera released by next year's PMA event although he can't say this for certain.

Even though this announcement was made, Pentax are still staying quiet about the exact specifications of the camera.

Is this real or is it just another PR puff? This ones been played several times and nothing has come of it - so far. Of course, I too would like to be wrong. What I would like to see is a full frame DSLR. The new K7's about the right size to fit the sensor and electronics. All the other main players are there - so why not Pentax and I guess the real answer to this is money or more importantly lack of it.
