Pentax KD10
Press release:
Long awaited Pentax K10D now available at Park Cameras

The new Pentax K10D is now in stock!! This new digital SLR camera combines 10.2 effective megapixels with a host of advanced technologies — including the Pentax-original Shake Reduction (SR) system — to deliver high-quality digital SLR photography and responsive operations to advanced amateurs and experienced hobbyists.

The K10D also comes equipped with a host of features and functions designed to assist the photographer in various aspects of high-quality digital SLR photography. They include a new Dust Removal (DR) system to keep dust off the CCD surface, a Pentax-original exposure system for faithful reproduction of the photographer’s creative intentions, and a dependable dust-resistant, weather-resistant body construction. All combined, the K10D delivers exceptionally high image quality and responds brilliantly to the exacting demands of advanced photographers.

The Pentax K10D is also perfectly resistant against humidity, spray and dust. - Whether you’re shooting on a drizzling Autumn morning, on a snowy mountain side, along a dusty desert trail or in a tropical rain forest: the seals around the durable K10D body reliably protects the inner components against humidity and the finest dust particles. Other design features further protect the K10D from the forces of nature. The fiber-reinforced polycarbonate body surrounding the high-rigidity stainless-steel chassis provides for the necessary robustness for rugged daily use.

If I was after a new camera, this would be pretty high on my wish list. I hope Pentax have come up with a winner here. They made superb cameras in the past (I had a KX for about 20 years!).

I agree & the review(s) seem to only fault its soft jpgs - rectifiable maybe with future firmware upgrades? - RAW looks an excellent route to all things sharp & faithful to me....now I wonder what Sony have been doing behind closed doors recently...:o)

I've just read in EOS magazine, which may be bias, that the sensor movement shake reduction system is good for shorter lenses but not so good for telephotos, which is where you need it most. The Canon guy says that the sensor would need to move around 4-5mm to be effective on longer lenses.
I'll stick with my IS lenses.

Good advise, Buy 2, you'll need a back up, when the sensor shakes it's way into the mirror chamber.

I think this will be a great camera and a great addition to the pentax range. Plus if you are in any doubt about the reason to buy two take a look at Mohammedshafaq1's Portfolio, you will see from the comments the man loves taking great pics with his pentax and he's only been here about a year.

I already own the K10D.
photo enthusiasts make me laugh. you would think that only Nikon or cannon make capable cameras. the truth is that Cannon and Nikon simply pay millions more to advertise their product than say Pentax does. This K10D is a fantastic Feature rich SLR. The shake reduction system works just about as advertised giving you about 2 to 3 stops for handheld shooting. If you are usuing very long lenses then you should be using a tripod anyway, but you'll still be able to shoot about 2 speeds slower with excellent results. The truth is you can keep your $3000.00 Nikons and Cannons. I'll get great shots with the much more reasonbly priced built for duty Pentax any Day.
