Just a girl
'Just a girl' by BURNBLUE

ePHOTOzine member BURNBLUE has been crowned this week's Photo of the Week (POTW) winner.

The POTW is picked by ePHOTOzine's founder and Editorial Director, Peter Bargh, once a week and here's why he thought BURNBLUE's photo, 'Just a girl', was a worthy winner:

"They say don't stick your subject bang in the centre of the frame, but rules are meant to be broken and doing that here has provided a brilliant balance of old and new. The young girl, untainted by life, looks directly into our eyes. Direct front light provides large catch-lights in the eyes and just enough exposure to lift her from the sombre background.

The background, also subtly out of focus, gives us a glimpse into the girl's living conditions. The furniture worn by life provides a direct contrast to the fresh faced youngster, as does the subtle pastel pink and yellow clothing against the muted green and blue hues. Beautifully exposed, accurately focused, technical excellence with a touching subject."

POTW winners now receive a £100 (Plus £15 p&p) voucher from Albelli - the Photo Book experts. Take a look at the Photo of the Week Gallery where all shots that have received the award are displayed.

Sad. In my eyes certainly not a deserving winner, its plainly obvious she doesnt live in conditions like that.

Don't really get involved much in forums or contribute to any topics or threads on EPZ, however feel I must reply to Andyphotographers comment.
This shot was taken in havana cuba and yes the girl lived there with her family in that house you can see in background. Any more questions regarding my work then just message me rather than blurting your incorrect views down without much thought behind the comment...always best.

Gratitude.

Simon.

reminds me of a more modern Diane Arbus, a fantastic documentary picture.
