Before the 4th edition of the Photo Romania Festival
– 'the most important photography festival in Eastern Europe' according to The Telegraph – the organisers have set up three different competitions for photo enthusiasts, with a total prize sum of over 1,200 Euros.
The first of these competitions is the Photo Romania Award which both amateur and professional photographers from around the world can enter. Using the Photo Romania Award App, photographers can submit a photo on the Photo Romania Festival Facebook page for one of the three sections of the contest: "Photojournalism", "Black and White", and "Journey Photography".
The competition opens for entries on 26 March 2014 and runs until 16 May 2014. After the competition closes, a winner will be chosen by a jury and they'll be awarded a 500 Euro voucher for an online photo equipment store.
Members of the public will also be given the chance to pick a winner in the "Viral Photo of the Year" part of the contest. Up for grabs is a 300 Euro voucher and the winning image will be the one that receives the most 'Likes'.
The winners will be announced on 25 May 2014.
Romanian amateur photographers with a collection of 15 to 20 photos on a specific theme, who want to exhibit the collection during the Photo Romania Festival can register for the Expo-Debut Competition. Registrations must be made via the Festival's Facebook page between 1 - 30 April 2014. On 1 May 2014 the jury will choose a winner and the exhibition of their work will take place on 23 May 2014 (the cost of the printing, transport and accommodation for the winner will be provided by the organisers).
The third competition – Head to Head – will see 16 Romanian photographers undergo three distinct competition stages during the Photo Romania Festival (16 - 25 May 2014). Photographers can register for the competition from 14 April 2014 to 16 May 2014.
During the 1st stage, photographers will be split into 8 teams composed of 2 photographers in each. Each team will receive 2 themes and for each theme, each contestant will have to shoot a photo in a 12-hour interval from when they receive the theme. The jury will analyse all the photos and will choose 6 participants to qualify for the second stage of the competition. The same mechanism will be applied again for the last 2 stages of the contest so that in the 4th stage, there are only 2 contestants left. They will receive 5 themes and be given 48 hours to submit their photos. The jury will then appoint a winner, who will win a 200 Euro voucher for an online photo equipment store, on 25 May 2014.
The jury for all 3 competitions will include: Sebastian Vaida, Radu Salcudean, Horatiu Curutiu and Sebastian Magnani.
