Money worries haven't stopped growth in the camera market - 2008 is set to be the largest year for the sale of digital cameras in the UK.
Negative press about the economy and the word "recession" hasn't stopped the digital camera market from growing.
It may only have grown by 2% compared with the same period in July last year but it's still a growth. According to GFK marketing the digital camera market me be one of the only few non-food product sectors less affected by the credit crunch.
It's the compact camera market that seems to allow the digital market to keep growing. With the compact accounting for 93% of sales in July 2008. According to GFK reasons for this maybe because 3 out of 5 compact cameras are now sold for under £100 which means even though the camera is seen as a luxury item, most of them can be picked up fairly cheaply. Growth could also be put down to the compact becoming a commodity. It is now something everyone has rather than only photographers buying them.
New features such as face and smile detection may also be helping with the boost in sales.
