RSPCA YPA Shortlist Announced - The shortlist for the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2013 has been announced.
A shortlist of 37 stunning shots has been selected from thousands of entries ahead of an exclusive event to announce the winners of the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards next month.
The varied mix of images range from a panting bearded dragon to a fox silhouetted in the snow and a dog leaping over a branch with ears flapping.
TV personality, photographer and wildlife expert Chris Packham led a judging panel of industry professionals and will also present the award ceremony at the Tower of London on Thursday 19 December.
He said: "There are some gorgeous images here – I would be very proud if they were mine. I love seeing young people get so excited about photography and applying sophisticated techniques which would daunt many experienced adults.
This year the young teenagers were particularly strong which is great as this is the age when kids tend to start picking up cameras and using them properly for the first time. The fact that they are so good already bodes well for their future".
Chris added: "I have judged this competition for many years and perhaps the best part for me is seeing the joy and enthusiasm for the animal kingdom radiate from the photographs. There’s some really lovely portraits of pets, full of affection, and the focus on British wildlife is at times stunning. A real appreciation for the natural world on our doorsteps."
The overall winner will go on an amazing weekend photography break courtesy of Natures Images. Olympus cameras worth up to £500 are also up for grabs for winners and runners up in each category. The winner of each age category will also receive an exclusive photo shoot at an RSPCA animal centre.
