Serif Competition Winner Announced - Serif have announced the winner of their PhotoPlus Photography Competition 2012.
The competition received more than 12,000 votes, and the winner was CK NG from Indonesia with his image of a farmer's harvest celebration. This stunning image was taken at a festival in Padang where farmers ride running bulls through their fields, as they believe this will bring them luck and a better harvest for next year.
CK beat 19 other finalists to the grand prize after being voted the public’s favourite on the Serif website. When asked to describe how he captured the winning shot, CK explained: “I was standing in front of the bulls, using the zoom lens to capture it. After shooting, I had to run to the side immediately to avoid being hit.”
He used a Nikon D700 and 70-200mm Nikon lens, with the settings f/6.3, S 1/2500 & ISO 800, to take the photo. During editing, CK cropped the image to achieve the powerful close-up. He also enhanced the detail of the water with adjustments to contrast and vibrancy and sharpened the clarity of his image to achieve the final stunning effect.
As the winner, CK will take home over £2,000 worth of equipment: a Nikon 3200 DSLR with an 18-55 VR Lens, Nikon J1 Compact System Camera Twin Lens Kit, a Veho Duopod, a Serif software bundle, two large format prints, a canvas print, and a subscription to Practical Photography and Digital Photo magazines.
