Technical details on the new camera have been kept deliberately scant. However the message that's prevalent through the short animated teaser, and a quick look at the website's meta tags, confirms that Sigma will continue to use a Foveon image sensor as in previous Sigma SLRs.

Unlike conventional Bayer-pattern CCD sensors, which only collect information for one of the red, green or blue colour channels at each photosite, the Foveon sensor collects all three colour channels at each pixel. This is interesting because the colour information doesn't need to be interpolated and should lead to sharper, more detailed images than a camera with the same number of pixels.

Conventional image sensors only collect information for one colour per pixel.

The layered design of a Foveon Sensor collects all three colour channels at each photosite.

14 divided by 3 is: 4.66 - could this be a clue?

Well I've deduced from the teaser that there will be no top plate LCD.

Right - and no lens!

That's part of the Sigma 'magic' Malcolm. The SD9 & 10 didn't have one either. Just like real SLR's...
