Sketch Drawer Performance

Once you have installed the software and opened it, you need to load a picture, either by dragging it over or using the open file(s) button - you can work on more than one image at a time. The software will open common graphic files such as .jpeg, .bmp and .gif but not RAW. When the picture is loaded the orignal appears in the middle, one the left are the thumbnails of the pictures you are working on and down the right are the editing options.

There are 15 presets to choose from with options to change the edge strength. Under the heading strokes are options to enable hatching, colour sketch, fill white areas, textures and you can adjust the hardness and detail. Under colourize you can create colour sketches, with options to change the colouration and detail, with tick box options for normalize histogram and use colour shift.

When you have decided which combination options you wish to use you need to hit the run button. This creates your sketch but it's slow, taking around a minute. Even if you just want to tinker with the options it still takes the same time to reprocess which is frustrating.

Other options available include zoom in / out and undo / redo. When you're happy you just need to press the Save as button. If you want to do a number of pictures with the same style, load them all, select the required settings and hit Batch Mode. This will ask you where you want to save the images. Hit start and all your pictures will be edited.

Sketch Drawer Verdict

If you enjoy turning your images into sketches the Sketch Drawer program is easy to use and can produce decent results. The biggest disappointment is the speed it takes to process images, even when making minor changes. You're also not able to save your own presets.

Sketch Drawer Pros

Basic and easy-to-use
Batch mode

Sketch Drawer Cons

Frustratingly slow
Not option to create custom presets
