Pentax U.K. have launched the extremely versatile, high performance Pentax DA 18-250mm f/.3-6.3 ED AL (IF) interchangeable zoom lens, which will enable users to shoot a variety of images without having to change lenses. When mounted on a Pentax digital SLR camera body, it boasts an approximately 14-times zoom ratio, covering an impressive range from 27.5mm wide angle to 383mm super-telephoto in 35mm format. Consequently the lens is able to handle a variety of applications, including the standard snapshot, landscape, portrait and even specialised photography such as sports and wildlife.
The lens has been exclusively designed for use with Pentax digital SLR cameras, with an image circle perfectly in proportion to their image sensor size (23.5mm x 15.7mm). In addition, by incorporating extra-low dispersion glass and two aspherical optical elements, it effectively compensates for the adverse effects of various aberrations, helping to ensure superb image quality. This is complimented by the fact that the coating, curvature and position of all the optical elements have been optimised for the characteristics of digital images, thus minimising the flare and ghost images that can ruin pictures.
"The new Pentax DA 18-250mm lens provides photographers with the ability to create the highest quality shots in a variety of photographic disciplines, using just one lens. Its production is evidence of our continuous pursuit of the ultimate image quality in digital photography," said Marilyn Dixon of Pentax.
High zoom ratio
Mounted on a Pentax digital SLR camera body, this zoom lens offers approximate 14x zoom ratio that covers the range from 27.5mm wide angle to 383mm super-telephoto in the 35mm format. Without the need for lens changes, it can be used for a wide variety of applications — ranging from such standard applications as landscape photography, snapshots and portrait at frequently used focal lengths, to specialized applications like sports and wildlife photography at the super-telephoto range.
Superb image description assured by extra-low dispersion (ED) and aspherical optical (AL) elements
Incorporating two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and two aspherical (AL) elements, this lens effectively compensates for the adverse effects of various aberrations, assuring outstanding image description.
