Sony Cyber Shot Rx1 (12)

We take a look at the new Sony Cyber-shot RX1 - the first 35mm full frame compact digital camera with fixed lens, it features the same 24.3 megapixel sensor as the Sony Alpha A99, and offers 5fps continuous shooting, a 3 inch screen, built in pop-up flash, and Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 lens with 49mm filter thread. We've taken a number of sample photos at different ISO settings, and will be posting our full review shortly. Updated with additional sample photos: 29/01/13.
Sony Cyber Shot Rx1 (1)

Sony Cyber-shot RX1 Key Features:

  • 24.3mp Exmor sensor (same as alpha a99), same benefits to sensor development
  • Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm F/2 lens
  • 20cm macro mode. 9 aperture blades for high class rounded bokeh
  • f/2 - f/22 aperture lens ring (closest to body) surrounds lens
  • Macro ring (middle), focusing ring (at front)
  • AA lens (advanced aspherical lens)
  • BIONZ processor (same as a99), exposure comp dial on top, copper coloured ring represents all the full frame models from Sony. Mode dial on top. on/off/ flash hot shoe
  • ISO50 - 102400* multiframe noise reduction (extended range normally 100 to 25600)
  • Full HD PASM video, 24p
  • Magnesium body, with customisable buttons, dial at front focus modes, control dial on top, control wheel at back
  • 3 inch screen 1229k dot screen
  • A number of new accessories will be available for the RX1: FDA-V1K OVF, lens hood, thumbgrip TGA-1, EVF available, leather case
Sony Cyber Shot Rx1 (3)

The Sony RX1 is shown with the optional accessories, including a lens-hood (LHP-1), Thumb grip (TGA-1), and an optical viewfinder kit (FDA-V1K). There will also be available an electronic viewfinder kit (FDA-EV1MK), using the same high resolution XGA Trufinder technology as the A99, A77, A65, NEX-7 and NEX-6. The lens has a minimum focal distance of 20cm from the focal plane when the lens ring is switched to macro mode.

Sony Cyber Shot Rx1 (13)

The camera uses menus that are very similar to Sony's Alpha cameras, making it easy to navigate and change settings, particularly if you've used other Sony Alpha Digital SLRs. A built in pop-up flash is found in the body, as well as a standard ISO flash hot-shoe. A microphone socket is included for anyone interested in using it for video recording.

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX1 Other sample images

Image quality is impressive even at the highest ISO setting of ISO25600. With such usable results, it's surprising that the camera doesn't offer a boosted ISO setting of ISO51200.

I don't know what you do with items that you test, but giving a clean isn't one of them

This looks like it has been in a paper shredder collector, or has some one at epz towers not been using their anti dandruff shampoo, I think we should be told

Scope for presentational improvement me thinks

Hi, the original images shown were taken at a brief hands-on event we attended. We now have the camera in our offices for our full review and have updated the images and added more sample photos. Thanks.

They have pretty much duplicated the design of the x10, right down to the thumb grip and lens hood Smile
