Full Frame Market View Update
Sony has said the new full-frame Handycam, DSLR, and Compact camera products are considered the "Three brothers", providing a full frame proposition of SLR, Compact, (Cyber-shot), and Handy-Cam with all three featuring the copper ring around the lens to signify the full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor inside.
Figures show the compact camera market / handycam camcorder and compact camera market in decline - with a huge growth in smart phonesover the last few years (with 5mp or higher). As a result Sony see the market being driven by Image Quality.
The CSC + SLR market segments are growing 15% Year-On-Year, with IQ the driver for users to have a dedicated device. Sony's advantage in this area is that they are in charge of development of the three key factors regarding image quality: the lens, sensor, and processor development. This has lead them to take the No. 1 position in the premium compact market, with the
Sony Cyber-shot RX100, ahead of the
Fujifilm X10, and then the
Canon Powershot S100 following.
