Sony V1 digital camera unveiled - Sony introduces 5 Megapixel, 4x optical zoom digital camera with creative possibilities in a new ergonomic design.
Sony UK have announced a high performance digital camera in its Cyber-shot range, which expands the creative possibilities for the photography enthusiast. The Cyber-shot DSC-V1 features 4x optical zoom and 5 effective megapixel image resolution. Sony say its impressive range of photographic features provide maximum creative freedom, and up to 1GB of storage capacity is available when the camera is used with an optional Memory Stick PRO. The camera also comes equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar lens and, with a completely new body design, it represents a new era in the development of this popular range.
"This camera provides creative freedom in a device which offers intuitive functionality and exceptionally high image quality," said Adam Williams, Product Manager for Digital Still Cameras, Sony UK. "We have also made some major ergonomic improvements to the user interface, making it quick and easy to use. It really is the perfect solution for the enthusiast who wants to capture images that match their creative expectations, whatever the conditions."
The Cyber-shot V1 achieves remarkable photographic results. Sony's 5 million effective pixel Super-HAD CCD and the Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar lens provides stunning image quality. Add a Sony developed 14-bit Digital Extended Processor (DXP), Clear Colour/Clear Luminance Noise Reduction, Noise Reduction Slow Shutter and a number of other technological refinements and this camera achieves a picture quality that meets professional standards.
Performance features for creative freedom
The Cyber-shot V1 is equipped with the NightFraming function, which combines three features to achieve perfect framing, perfect focus and perfect exposure in low or zero light conditions. Firstly, NightShot uses infrared technology to frame the subject in complete darkness. When the shutter release button is pushed half-way down, NightShot disengages and Hologram AF takes over. Hologram AF uses a laser to detect the edges of the subject revealed by NightShot, allowing the camera to perfectly focus on it. When the shutter release is pushed all the way down, the pre-flash fires to determine the perfect exposure before the picture is taken with the main flash.
A new, Advanced Accessory Shoe provides a number of enhancements to the flash operation, allowing wireless connection and helping to ensure perfect exposure levels every time. The new Hot Shoe gives a pre-flash capability which automatically adjusts exposure and is compatible with an analogue camera flash. When only the most accurate measure of lighting conditions will suffice, a histogram display showing luminance distribution in the form of a graph makes it easy to judge the correct exposure levels.
Continuous Auto Focus allows the user to achieve pin-sharp focus with ease. Normally, pushing the shutter button half way down would 'lock' the image, but the DSC-V1 will keep on focusing until it reaches the correct level.
Three straightforward settings for contrast, sharpness and saturation offer the user the ability to capture exactly the colour and detail they require.
A full range of dedicated Sony accessories is optionally available for this camera, to offer even more creative flexibility.
The Cyber-shot V1 will be available in the UK from the beginning of June 2003. Pricing information is not yet available.
