Jargon Buster: Off
The Sony World Photography Awards is coming to a close with the deadline for entries at 11:59pm on 31st January 2008.
For Amateurs:
Up to three entries can be submitted for the Amateur competition in one of the following eight categories:
- Abstract
- Architectural
- Fashion
- Music/Performance
- Nature
- Portraiture
- Science
- Sport
There will be nine finalists, each of who will have their work showcased in an exhibition at Cannes between 21st - 25th April 2008. The overall winner will be flown to Cannes, accommodated in a five star hotel and will receive VIP tickets to the Awards Ceremony including Cocktail Reception and Awards Dinner.
For Professionals:
Up to 10 pieces of work can be submitted for the Professional competition in one of the following 11 categories:
- Abstract
- Advertising
- Architectural
- Fashion
- Music/Performance
- Nature
- Nude
- Portraiture
- Photojournalism/Documentary
- Science
- Sport
Winners of each individual category will win the title of Photographer of the Year in each particular category, entry into the World Photographic Academy and have their image exhibited on the Sony World Photography Awards website. An overall winner will also be selected and will receive title of Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year 2008, as well as $25,000 (around £12,500), entry into the World Photographic Academy and have their image exhibited on the website.
