Success for Digital SLR Photography Magazine - Digital SLR Photography Magazine shows growth in declining magazine market

Digital SLR Photography magazineFollowing its award as Consumer Magazine of the Year 2009 at the Pixel Trade Awards, the latest ABC figures (the UK’s official magazine audit) released today has revealed that Digital SLR Photography magazine is the UK’s fastest growing photography magazine, with an ABC increase from 23,000 to 29,208, a growth of 27%.

Editor Daniel Lezano comments: “We’d like to thank our growing readership for their continued support. All the team here are passionate about photography and we’re glad that the hard work being put into making this the most exciting and informative photo magazine on the market is being so well received. The latest issue introduces several new series that we think will give even more to the readers and is just the first of several innovations we have planned for the magazine this year. Once more, thanks to you for your support and we hope you enjoy what’s to come in Digital SLR Photography!”

Only two titles have grown year on year, as you can see from the results. It seems the photography magazine market has taken quite a hit as readers seek out other sources of information, such as the publisher's own web sites and, of course, ePHOTOzine (with an ABCe of 702,774).

Whilst Digital SLR has had an amazing growth, its also worth noting that the three leading publications (based on circulation) are Digital Photo, Practical Photography and Digital Camera. Not quite sure what that says about readership trends.

It's a shame to see Digital Photographer drop I like that magazine.

yeah i agree have been a long time subscriber to Digital Photographer, i just find the website and forums let it all down though as they are so slow and the forums are pretty dead a lot of the time.

As for Digital Camera, no suprise there, its been going down hill for quite sometime. That was the first mag i ever subscribed to and it was always a good solid read and the previous website was always really active despite the resident moron that resides there.

People left in their droves when the abomination PhotoRadar came online. It was an utter farce from day 1 and hasn't improved any at all. The mag has become samey and un-imaginative, that said they still maintain a high readership so it probably won't make any difference and they will carry on in much the same way

Hi Paul

Glad to hear of another Photoicon reader. I loved that magazine, subscribed, and never heard from it again. A great shame as I thought it was something new, exciting and different as I find most photo mags samey and repetitive.
