Press Release:
The sun is starting to set on this year’s Take-a-View Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards – with just a few weeks left to enter.
This year’s competition offers an impressive total prize fund of £20,000, including £10,000 cash for the overall winner.
Now in its second year, entrants have until 12th July 2008 to submit their photographs of the British landscape.
Last year's winner was ePHOTOzine member Jon Gibbs who won the competition with his image of a storm over Scroby Sands Wind Farm in Great Yarmouth. He was selected from over 20,000 entries and won the grand prize of £10,000. Commenting on his win Jon said “I was shocked to win the Take-a-View competition but also very proud. It's a great feeling to be picked out from so many marvellous entries.”
“I chose the image for the competition because it's a dramatic image with very nice light and I believed the placing of the lightning behind the turbines gave the image a feeling of energy whilst also highlighting two very differing forms of energy itself.”
Following on from the success of the 2007 exhibition of commended and winning images, this year’s exhibition will again be held over an eight-week period at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank. The exhibition is expected to attract over 80,000 visitors during the eight-week period and runs from 17th November 2008.
A book will also be published featuring the 2008 winning entries, which will be launched at the exhibition. The competition is fast becoming an event that reflects the heart and spirit of Britain and attracts entries of the very highest standard.
Charlie Waite, one of Britain’s best-loved landscape photographers, says of Take a view: “The first year of the Awards exceeded all expectations. The standard of the work was amazing and the exhibition was a great success. The emails that we receive really show that the landscape is something with which we all identify and get great pleasure from. I am very pleased that my aim, to involve as many people as possible in making images that symbolise our land and our times, has been met in the most positive way. I can’t wait to see this year’s entries.”
The closing date is 12th July 2008. For full terms and conditions and to enter, please visit the website.
