Tamron 14-150mm lens

Tamron has introduced an innovative all-in-one zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras.

The Tamron 14-150mm is a compact zoom lens that combines extreme versatility and exceptional image quality. This latest lens from Tamron is digitally optimized for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and is available in both a Black and a Silver finish. This new lens (equivalent to 28-300mm in the 35mm and full frame formats) is a 10.7x zoom and weights only 285g, making it an ideal all-in-one zoom lens for travel, family and creative photography.

Optical Design

The optical design of this lens includes one LD (Low Dispersion glass element), two AD (Anomalous Dispersion) glass elements, two Molded Glass Aspherical elements and one Hybrid Aspherical element. This formula reduces aberrations to a bare minimum to achieve exceptional image quality.

Stepping Motor for quick and quiet auto-focusing

The stepping motor’s actuator allows precise control of angular rotation, and since it drives the focusing mechanism directly without any intermediary reduction gear, it is also exceptionally quiet. These features give the lens a seamless, fluid auto-focusing action when shooting video.

The lens will be available for an SRP of £389.99 from July 2014. For more information, take a look at the Intro 2020 website

That's an interesting development. Sigma's (very good) MFT lenses have been re-mounted versions of their DSLR lenses. This looks to be a dedicated MFT lens.

Provided the optical quality is up to scratch - and Tamron usually are - it's useful competition for Olympus and Panasonic. There's quite an armoury of lenses available now for a camera system only five years old.
