The Prince’s Rainforests Project and Sony present ‘Focus on the Rainforests’

Daniel Beltrá, the winner of this year’s Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP) Award at the Sony World Photography Awards, will be showcasing his work in a series of state of the art exhibitions.

The images show his best work from his fully-funded trip to three of the world’s major rainforests.

ePHOTOzine got the chance to talk to Daniel about life as a conservation photographer and what it was like to spend three months in the Amazon, Congo and Indonesia.

This Autumn, a series of state of the art exhibitions will take place around Europe to showcase stunning images taken by Daniel Beltrá, the winner of this year’s Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP) Award at the Sony World Photography Awards. The images showcase the best of his fully-funded trip to three of the world’s major rainforests, with photos from the Amazon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Indonesia.

Put together in a joint effort between the PRP and Sony, the exhibitions entitled, ‘Focus on the Rainforests’, will take place in London (Kew Gardens), Paris (Hotel de Ville) and Berlin (Alexa Centre). Opening in October (full dates below), these interactive photographic experiences form the closing chapter of Daniel’s amazing trip.

In a speech for the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony in Cannes earlier this year, HRH The Prince of Wales said: "photographic images can tell a compelling story about the truth of the situation, and the truth is that if we lose the fight against tropical deforestation, then we lose the fight against climate change."

Working closely with the PRP on these exhibitions, Sony has combined its commitment to the environment with its years of technological expertise, giving visitors the opportunity to relive Daniel’s incredible journey. Augmenting the stunning imagery with a selection of sounds, projections, videos and even smells, visitors to the exhibitions will be treated to a uniquely full interactive sensory experience.

Commenting on the exhibitions the PRP’s Senior Director, Justin Mundy, said: “Daniel Beltrá’s stunning new images taken in the Amazon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Indonesia tell a compelling story. Most people will never manage to experience the beauty of the rainforests first hand and these exhibitions in London, Paris and Berlin will play a crucial role in raising awareness of the importance of preserving the rainforests in the fight against climate change.”

Environmental responsibility has been a significant part of the Sony ethos for many years and the PRP partnership is just one of our many environmental initiatives. Sony Chairman and CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, recently filmed a video with the PRP animated frog in support of the partnership, which can be seen on the PRP website.
