Ideal for active kids and rough outdoors: Pentax WG-10
The Pentax WG-10 features 5x optical zoom lens, the camera also features 5 macro LEDs that surround the lens for excellent close up photos, and is waterproof to 10 meters, as well as dustproof, shockproof, and basically adventure proof according to Pentax.
Ideal for the whole family: Nikon Coolpix S31
The Nikon Coolpix S31 is waterproof to 5 meters, shockproof to 1.2 meters, and has large buttons on the back. It has a 3x optical zoom lens with a decent macro and is available in blue, white, pink and yellow. For education and kids who like to build things: Bigshot

For analogue kids (and adults): Lomo Konstruktor
The Lomography Konstruktor is a new DIY / Build your own SLR camera with a 50mm f/10 lens, and is designed to teach you how film cameras work. It is recommended for ages 12+ and is available for £29 making it an affordable entry into film photography.
For kids (of all ages) who love Lego: Lego Digital Camera
This 3 megapixel Lego digital camera is priced at £49 from Amazon and while this camera may be quite basic, it features a real flash and 1.5inch screen on the back. You can also add to the Lego camera with more Lego, although unfortunately you can't take it apart. Recommended for ages 3+
Recommended for kids ages 3 - 9 years old: VTech Kidizoom Twist
The Kidizoom Twist is available in blue or pink for £33 from Amazon. This camera has large handles to make it easy to hold as well as optical viewfinders. This 2 megapixel camera features an LED flash in the middle.
Alternatively the VTech Kidizoom 3D is recommended for kids ages 5+, and available from Amazon, for £69, featuring 2 lenses for 3D images, as well as a large screen on the back, the camera comes with 3D glasses for viewing 3D images, and will also take 2D photos.
Recommended for kids ages 3-7 years old: Playskool Show Cam
Playskool Show Cam - The camera features a built in projector and is available for £49 in grey or pink. This camera does not feature a flash, so may struggle to take photos indoors or in low light.
