Travel Photography Live!

Following on from its hugely successful exhibition there this summer, Travel Photographer of the Year is returning to London’s Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) this autumn for Travel Photography Live!

Running from 5-7 October 2012, Travel Photography Live! will be an interactive, informative and entertaining weekend where attendees will be given the chance to meet and learn from some of the world's most renowned photographers.

Some of the photographers who’ll be sharing the secrets behind their iconic images, and insights into their photography are: Nick Danziger, Steve Bloom, Eamonn McCabe, Jason Hawkes, Timothy Allen, Tom Mackie and Chris Weston.

The even kicks off with keynote lectures in the Society’s magnificent Ondaatje Theatre. Nick Danziger - travel photographer, filmmaker and one of the world’s most renowned photojournalists – will take the audience ‘Around the World in 80 Images’. And Steve Bloom - famed documenter of the apartheid years in South Africa, and award-winning travel and wildlife photographer – will present the story of his photographic journey ‘From 1970’s South Africa to the world today’.

Several other talks and workshops will be going on throughout the weekend that will cover many areas of photography, including wildlife, aerial, adventure, fine art, advertising, editorial, travel and reportage, how to make money from photography, working with light, shooting on HD video, the art of editing images and the story of travel photography.

Speakers include:
  • Eamonn McCabe – four-times winner of Sports Photographer of the Year, winner of News Photographer of the Year, and former Guardian Picture Editor
  • Tom Mackie - one of the world's leading landscape photographers
  • Mark Edward Harris - leading stock & fine art travel photographer from the USA
  • Chris Weston - renowned wildlife photographer
  • Craig Easton - travel photographer who shot many of the promotional images for the London Olympics
  • Timothy Allen - photographer for BBC Human Planet
  • Jason Hawkes - award-winning aerial photographer
  • Nick Meers - travel, landscape & panoramic photographer
  • Martin Hartley - expedition photographer
  • Philip Lee Harvey - travel & advertising photographer

  • Mary Robert - lecturer in photography
  • Abi King – leading travel blogger
  • Chris Coe - travel photographer & founder of the Travel Photographer of the Year awards (TPOTY)
There will also be imaging workshops, equipment advice and individual photo critique sessions - where festival visitors can get feedback on their own shots from leading experts. And there will be a ‘pop-up’ shop, at which visitors can buy TPOTY books, prints and cards, together with books by some of the speakers.

Tickets cost £25 for the keynote lecture evening, with Saturday or Sunday tickets costing £65 each and a Festival Pass (covering all three days) £130. These prices are reduced to £20, £50 and £105 respectively for members of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), registered students, and Travel Photographer of the Year entrants. In addition, TPOTY is offering special 'Earlybird' discounts off all these ticket prices to anyone booking by 10 September 2012.
