Both scanners have an optical resolution of 2700 dpi meeting the needs of both professional and keen amateur photographers. Their fast scan speed, manufacturing quality and impressive software bundle make them quite appealing.
With a dynamic range of 3.4D the PowerLook 270 & 270 Plus should capture details in the darkest areas of slides and negatives. Both scanners are provided with scanframes for mounted slides (2mm/3mm) and a frame for 35mm film strips.
Umax say the PowerLook 270 is a film scanner which combines high image quality, great functions, a high quality software bundle at an attractive price. This scanner is ideal for people who want to scan an existing slide and negative stock for archiving or manipulation.
The PowerLook 270 Plus is the big brother of the PowerLook 270 and comes equipped with the powerful anti-dust and scratch software Digital ICE, developed by the company Applied Science Fiction. The scanner architecture was fundamentally changed, to include an additional infrared light source, rays penetrate the slide/negative at an angle. Dust and scratches show up as shadows. Based on the scanned image the software is able to distinguish shadows/scratches from real image structures and removes them automatically.
Added to the package of the PowerLook 270 and the PowerLook 270 Plus are the award winning SilverFast Ai in its latest Version 5.5 from LaserSoft Imaging. The new negative function NegaFix is a key break through in negative-scanning quality. 120 negative profiles are provided as part of the software. Custom profiles can also be created, perhaps needed for very old negatives, a range of sophisticated tools will help to guarantee precise results.
To optimise the workflow, LaserSoft Imaging developed its batch scanning SilverFast JobManager. With this application the user prescans all slides/ or the negatives in at once, controls and changes if necessary each individual image, and finally just presses the scan button. Each image will be scanned with its specific adjustments in batch scan mode.
The PowerLook 270 Plus is also equipped with a 35mm IT8-calibration target to aide colour management accuracy. The target is optional for the PowerLook 270.
