Wedding album wipe-out is brides’ worst woe

Sixty-three per cent of brides’ worst fear is losing their wedding photos according to a recent data loss survey conducted by Ontrack Data Recovery,* providers of industry leading data recovery solutions. As digital cameras move to displace traditional 35mm film cameras, the nature and value of photographs taken at weddings have become increasingly precious.

Wedding snaps are considered priceless by 84 per cent of brides and, with a high percentage of them in digital form, the risk of accidentally deleting, damaging or losing the carefully captured memories is a new challenge that couples must guard against. Ontrack Data Recovery experts recommend making an immediate back-up copy of the photos at the time of transfer from the camera to the PC or other storage device. But don’t stop there… couples should be sure to check the quality of the copy by inspecting the photos and to store the copies in a separate location from the originals.

Properly backing-up your digital images takes time, however, and not everyone prints them out. In fact, only a third of brides surveyed admitted to making print copies of the best snaps from the big day.

That is, if images have been backed up appropriately to avoid huge disappointment if and when the PC fails.”
