XLR8 releases Carrier ZIF SSE and MACh Carrier G4 SSE processor upgrades -
Today XLR8 announced the latest version of the award winning Carrier ZIF, the Carrier ZIF SSE (Six-Slot Edition). Available in three configurations - the 400 MHz MACh Carrier G4 SSE, the 450 MHz MACh Carrier G4 SSE and an unpopulated board compatible with Apple and XLR8 ZIF G3 and G4 processors, the Carrier ZIF SSE. These products bring Motorola G4 compatibility to Macintosh clones with PCI cards in more than 3 of their six slots as well as the popular 9500 and 9600 series of six slot Apple Macintosh computers.
These flexible processor upgrade cards are the solution to power users who have been unable to utilise the powerful Motorola G4 processors in their computers due to an inherent hardware incompatibility. Macintosh Guru Michael Breeden commented, 'Until testing XLR8's Single and Dual G4 MPe cards in my loaded (DayStar) Genesis with dual PCI SCSI cards and striped RAID, the only G4 upgrade that would even boot in this system was a heavily modified Newer Tech G4 card, which isn't available anymore.
Since first reporting the G4/6 PCI Slot Mac issue in January 2000, I had almost given up on anyone fixing this issue, so I'm very pleased to see both the single and dual G4 MPe cards from XLR8 working well in my Genesis. I'm dreading the day I have to return the dual G4/450...'
As with prior versions of the Carrier ZIF family these cards feature a modular approach to upgrading and can be upgraded with various speeds of G3 ZIF and G4ZIF processors. The boards are compatible with the soon to be released dual processor adapter card, the MACh Velocity G4 MPe 50. These cards are also eligible for XLR8s unique TradeUp/TradeIn program where by customers can trade in their older XLR8 and non-XLR8 upgrade card for a discount.
