Magic Lantern guides are a little thicker than the manuals that currently come with a camera, but approach the handling in a different way. The manuals are usually written by photographers who use that particular brand of camera, whereas instruction manuals are often writen by the japanese arm of the manufacturer and translated so often things are not explained well.
With this EOS book we hope it's a pro photographer who knows the ins and outs of the market this camera is intended for. The only clue here is in the content as there's no biog to read about the credibility of the writer. A quick Google search reveals he's written several guides for cameras of all levels. But I don't see much sign of advice for pros throughout the content either - shooting tethered, for example, is skirted over. The book does a good coverage of modes and features but feels as though it's aimed at a basic level and what's more interesting is that the book has much of the same text as the EOS400D...is the buyer the same? This no doubt keeps production costs down as I'm sure there's not a huge demand for this type of book, but I'd rather read a book that was written totally with the specific camera in mind with technique dropped in relative to that camera's modes and features.
