The Venice carnival draws thousands of experienced photographers to the area to capture the colourful parades, so we see many great carnival pics. This collection appears to be the work of a photographer who decided he wanted to publish a book but ran out of good shots. There are some excellent ones, but many are little more than snap shots. Further investigation leads us to the Photographers' Note page, near the back of the book where he explains that quality set ups are impossible in such a crowded and fast-paced environment so he used a camera with a standard zoom and an on-camera flash. Some shots show the harsh lighting, with ugly catchlights and bleached out highlights. I get the impression that the best were put in and then others were used to fill the pages. You are not going to gain much from a technique point of view and it's a book that you would probably only glance through once.
