Michael Freeman's Photo School: Black and White is your all round guide to the world of black and white photography.
Michael Freeman is an acclaimed photographer that has already written four guides in this style that are ideal for those wishing to learn more about a certain area of photography. These books are written with the student of photography in mind, and includes challenges after each technique description for you to home in your skills.
The book introduces you to students, that are given critique on their shots at the end of every chapter by Michael. They show their photos at the end of each chapter, with an explanatory paragraph on how and why they took it. Michael then gives his constructive opinion on the shots, and the reader can learn from what he has to say about the shots too, for their own shots.
Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of black and white photography, from converting images from colour, to the major themes of black and white and when to choose black and white for your photos.
As usual with Michael's books, it is extremely informative and easy to follow, with loads of constructive hints and tips and plenty of detail on how each photo featured in the book was taken.
The book brings whole new dimensions to black and white photography, and really opens your eyes to the possibilities out there with black and white photography. This book is a must read if you are wanting to get into black and white photography, or simple looking to hone in your skills.
