Painting With Light is an innovative and unique book about using light images to create stunning photos of landscapes, objects and people.
Using a combination of natural and studio lighting, and sometimes photoshop effects, creating images by painting with the light is a rewarding, although sometimes time consuming technique.
Author Eric Curry has been a professional photographer for over 30 years, and specialises in photographing still life objects. He gets a fulfillment out of photographing using light painting, which is evident by the time and care he puts into every image on this book.
Curry urges us to be creative, and not to copy other ideas but to come up with your own. He talks us through the equipment and lighting needed to create a successful light painting image, explaining how to prepare for your image and use multiple exposures effectively.
He explains how white balance and lighting settings can adversely effect the colour of the image, and how to combat them. The rest of the book is an on location guide to shooting a host of photographs, and Curry goes through all the steps necessary to create great images such as these.
Using easy to understand language and with plenty of explanatory pictures to illustrate the points given, this book is a very useful guide to painting with light in photographs. Though you will probably need quite a bit of equipment to make this technique work for you, if you have the equipment then it is well worth giving painting with light a try.
