Photographer's Mental Gear is a book by established photographer Peter Finnie.

The book focuses on an area of photography that's not often looked at in great detail in other titles, and that's the mental and psychological side to being a successful photographer. It looks in detail at the mental and people skills that drive the business side of photography.

Peter says that even though we may have the technical tools to make amazing pictures, we need to be aware of more than this to be a success. Peter believes many photographers feel they need more confidence when it comes to dealing with clients, as well as being honest with themselves regarding how they think about their business, and so this book aims to address these issues.

The book first looks at personal development, and how your mental attitude and how you come across to your customers is key in you having a successful business. Looked at is how you can improve your people skills, and how you can improve how you see your business, so that you have clear goals to work to.

Covered is how you can take yourself out of the comfort zone and stretch yourself mentally, enabling you to cope with the unfamiliar more easily and widen your skillset.

The book has an extensive section on the value of your photography, and why you shouldn't undersell yourself just to get more clients. It also looks at how to deal with clients that are unhappy with your work or keep asking for more without paying the extra money your services deserve.

The end section, called Pitfalls and Perils, is all about avoiding the situations that every photographer dreads, including client dissatisfaction, self induced profit pitfalls and how to handle extra charges.

The book is very insightful and really gets you thinking about if your photography business is the best it can be and also providing the best service that it can for its customers. It's a great read for anyone looking to improve the business side of their photography, especially in terms of client relations and expectations.
