The Regulars is a collection of photographs taken by a bartender come photographer Sarah Stolfa.
The book is a collection of portraits which give us a glimpse into the lives of her former regulars. There is a wide array of characters, all of which maybe unique to that particular bar, but yet remind us of the characters that can be found in pubs anywhere. Each regular has their own page and their portraits are beautifully lit. The dark background allows our attention to focus on the regular and the items they have on the bar, a technique which brings personality to the photographs.
The series of images are connected through two pieces of writing: An introduction at the beginning by Jonathan Franzen and then, halfway through, we find an almost biography of Sarah, demonstrating her thoughts and ideas behind the images.
At first, you may wonder why you'd want to look at several portraits of people you don't know. But once you pick the book up, and you start to turn the pages, you'll find you'll be looking right until the end.
