Judges Writeup
With hundreds of active wildlife photographers posting images weekly on ePHOTOzine it wasn't surprising we would receive a high number of quality entries for this competition with its animals theme.
As well as lots of regulars the entries comprised some new names and new images too and the judging was an interesting challenge.
We hope you like the shortlist, and the eight winners picked from there.
Our first place goes to karryp for an high impact action shot of horses running through water. The splashes and action is frozen in time and the angle and tight crop adds that all important impact.
Second place goes to a remarkable action shot of a blue tit about to land by bluetitboy. Framed by the berries which add colourful contrast to the scene and caught as the wings are outstretched. Flash giving a subtle glow to the movement.
Seems like action caught the judge's eye, as third place by Coleslaw is also a fast moving shot, this time of a dog hurdling through snow. Perfect timing and pin point focusing have helped bring a shot with incredible quality.
Fourth place goes to regular competition winner csurry a wolf in Finland, that's technically perfect in every way. Great use of a long lens and shallow depth-of-field.
Fifth place is an atmospheric sunrise shot of deer with breath picked up by the backlit scene from dunfr.
An interesting mono shot from gstamenko where the animal is a smaller part of the scene but the contrast of the fluffy dog and the rugged backdrop work really well.
LoulouBeavers focuses in close on a pair of wolves and the tight framing and angle gives a photo with impact that takes seventh place.
Eighth place is taken by Strakova, a black cat paws at a wasp as it passes by. This shot catches a playful glimpse that we rarely see on camera but are often amused by in real life.
Be sure to enter our December competition and our Christmas Newsletter Prize Draw to be in with a chance of winning over £24,000 worth of Prizes.
