Judges Writeup
We had a fantastic response to this black & white themed competition. Entries included hard cutting black & whites through to subtly toned fine art that would have made Ansel Adams proud. The shortlist features some of the best entries and we then selected the winners which we thought delivered the best ingredients for the black & white theme.
In first place is Kitsch for her incredibly detailed steam punk self portrait montage. Second place goes to Paul Cook who used hdr/tonemapping to deliver a high contrast and graphical street scene that wouldn't look out of place in a batman movie set. Third place goes to jakubkanera. We love the lighting to emphasise the muscle, and the brave headless crop. Forth place is taken by csurry. A simple but beautifully lit and processed shot of paper - abstract to perfection. Woodlark takes fifth place with his portrait in a train. The face merges from the shadows and is lit by the window. A pre wiped area adds the the drama of this scene. Sixth place goes to a regular in our competitions, ading, who's processing gives him a unique look and a huge sense of mystery. This is tonally and texturally exquisite.
Well done to all six who each receive a free foliopic web site system worth £179 each. And congratulations to all the shortlisted. Thanks to all who entered. We hope you enjoy the next one.
