The theme for our April competition of Easter looks like it caused problems for many people. The entry level was lower than usual and the shortlist probably the lowest yet. For once the winning four images and the shortlist were easy to pick, and we hope you agree very good entries that summed up the theme well.
Matt Dillon-Shepherd's simple still-life shows what most of the population think about when they think of Easter - yes, chocolate eggs. The balance of eggs and use of selective focus has emphasised the foreground egg perfectly. Well done Matt!
Second place is a cracking (pardon the pun) digital manipulation by Steve Kinch. Steve had not really tried any manipulation before, apart from the usual dodging & burning and levels adjustments etc. To ensure this montage worked he paid particular attention to the lighting so that he had the same lighting on the eggs and his daughter.
Third spot is taken by Clement Chua. This shows a more traditional feel of Easter with a praying person in Notre Dame, Paris.
Fourth place is secured by Clint Newsham who's added a sunset backdrop to a symbolic cross.
Well done to all the winners and shortlist. Commiserations to the rest. Good luck with the next competition...and remember, you've got to be in it to win it!
