Photographing children is one of the harder subjects to master, so we were surprised to see such a good level of entry and there are some excellent pictures amongst the shortlist.

The winning six photographs show a variety of emotions / stages of childhood. They are in no particular order, although the system doesn't allow equal first place so we had to number them one to six.

Patricia Fenn's girl with rabbit is beautifully balanced and shows the sense of scale of life through a child's eyes. nimitta creates a fabulous motion effect by careful use of panning and slow shutter speed to recreate the thrill of the playground. allertadele demonstrates that moment when we discover new things - the fascination of life through the eyes of a child. reika351 chose a low viewpoint and subtle toning to the colours to give a child's eye view of the room and the stair-gate that is a barrier to the unknown.

ComfortablyNumb captured the party moment perfectly with the total engrossed enjoyment of cake and Nedawei takes us into the fantasy world of the story book, with subtle lighting and fascinated engrossment in the book.
